1956 Gretsch Repair
This 1956 Gretsch Jet Firebird (see photo #2) literally came to me in a garbage bag and a coffee tin. Apparently the previous owner did not realize that the neck was not intended to be removable, and started using a screwdriver when it got difficult. The first four photos show what was left, for me to work with. The next six show several steps in the rebuild/restoration of this classic twang guitar, and the last two show the back and front of the finished repair. Note that the intent was not to refinish the entire guitar, but to complete the repair in a manner that would be compatible with the existing state of 'wear and tear' exhibited by the instrument.
