Boston Youth's Companion Parlor Guitar
(Sorry, this instrument has been SOLD!)
This Parlor Guitar, with a spruce top and mahogany back, sides and neck, bears a stamp inside that reads, "The Companion Guitar - Perry, Mason & Co. - Boston, Mass." Research reveals that it was likely advertised in The Youth's Companion, a periodical published by Perry, Mason & Co. between 1827 and 1929. This gives some indication of its age and provenance.
With the original tuning machines, frets, and rosewood bridge, it is a perfect example of the classic parlor guitar sound. The neck has been reset, a few small cracks repaired, and the bridge lowered slightly to improve playability. It is strung with Aquila 'Nylgut' strings, and comes with a black fiberboard case for $400.00.
